Biography

Dr. Huitzilopochtli is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education at San José State University in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. His research interests include mathematical argumentative writing and justifying in middle school mathematics. His research is informed by ten years of experience as a middle-school mathematics teacher and teacher-leader in culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse schools in the East Bay Area. Dr. Huitzilopochtli takes a strengths-based approach to teacher education that emphasizes the roles of language, culture, and identity in learning mathematics.
