Become a Guardian Scholar

Eligibility

To be eligible for the program, you must self-identify as having one or more of the following Lived Experience Identities:

  • Current or former experience in foster care
  • Dependent/ward of the court
  • Legal guardianship
  • AB12 eligible (extended foster care)
  • Unaccompanied/unhoused minors identified under the McKinney-Vento Act in high school.

and also you must:

  • Be a matriculated undergraduate or graduate student at 91ÁÔÆæ
  • Be enrolled at least part-time
  • Maintain a GPA of 2.0 

Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) acceptance is no longer a requirement of Guardian Scholars Program (GSP) participation.


Steps to Apply

The Guardian Scholars Program (GSP) accepts applications every semester as resources allow. We do not have an age limit and we accept both undergraduate and graduate students.

  1. Complete the interest form:
  2. Attend an interview with GSP staff
  3. Complete the full application and submit any required documentation

Once your application is fully processed you will receive a welcome letter to your email if you are accepted into the program.

If you need paperwork to show you were in foster care, you can get it from the California Ombudsperson office.

Visiting and tours

We do not offer tours of the GSP office, but we can do a presentation if you are visiting campus. It covers our services and the application process.
