Wellness Lounge

College life can be exciting, busy, and sometimes stressful. The Wellness Lounge at San José State University is a welcoming space where students can slow down, recharge, and care for their social, emotional, and physical well-being. Whether you are looking for a place to pause and recharge, a chance to get creative, or free health and safety resources, the Wellness Lounge offers support both in person and online.

Location

The Wellness Lounge is located on the first floor of the Student Wellness Center.

  • ²Ñ´Ç²Ô»å²¹²â–T³ó³Ü°ù²õ»å²¹²â: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Friday: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Services

Massage Chairs

Take a moment to rest and recharge during your day with a relaxing massage. Massage chairs are available to all 91ÁÔÆæ students on a first come, first served basis for up to 30 minutes per session.

To help maintain a calm and respectful environment, please follow these guidelines:

  • Use the massage chair at your own risk. Consult a healthcare provider if you have a medical condition or are feeling unwell.
  • Use only the pre-set massage programs.
  • Limit use to 30 minutes per session.
  • Remove shoes before sitting in the chair. Socks or foot covers must be worn at all times.
  • Secure or remove loose items such as jewelry, earbuds, or drawstrings.
  • No eating or drinking while using the chair.
  • Press the on/off button at any time to stop the massage.
  • Wait for the chair to return to the starting position before standing.
  • Wipe down the chair after each use.
  • Report any issues or concerns to the Wellness Lounge front desk.

Borrow a Happy Lamp 

Happy lamps are commonly used during the fall and winter months to support energy levels and mood during seasonal changes. These lamps emit a UV-filtered, full-spectrum light that mimics natural sunlight.

Happy lamps are available for currently enrolled San José State University students to borrow following the end of Daylight Saving Time, generally from early November through early March. Students may request to borrow a happy lamp for up to one week at a time by completing the . For additional details, review the .

Take a Break

Need a place to relax between classes? Grab a seat and enjoy a calm moment in the Wellness Lounge.

Board Games

Enjoy board games in the Wellness Lounge as a way to relax and connect with others. A variety of games are available, including Catan, Quelf, Sorry, and more.

  • Tuesday Game Day:  A designated space is reserved for students to drop in and play games together during regular Wellness Lounge hours.
  • Outside of Tuesday Game Day: Board games are available during regular lounge hours, and all students are welcome to use a game during their visit.

Create & Connect

Create art and connect with peers through painting and coloring activities. This drop-in service offers students a chance to relax, express themselves, and build community in the Wellness Lounge.

  • Painting: Available Thursdays during the Fall and Spring semesters
  • Coloring supplies: Available in the lounge at all times

Pick Up Safer Sex & Harm Reduction Supplies

Students can pick up free safer sex and harm reduction supplies in the Wellness Lounge, including condoms, lubricant, naloxone (Narcan), fentanyl test strips, and drink spike test strips.

Virtual Well-Being Activities

Can’t make it to the Wellness Lounge in person? The Wellness Lounge offers virtual activities that students can enjoy anytime, whether on campus or at home. These resources are updated seasonally and are designed to support your emotional and physical well-being.

  • Relaxing Music
    Slow down and unwind while listening to calming piano music. Take a few minutes to pause, breathe, and let the music help you settle.
  • Digital Coloring Pages
    Take a creative break by downloading coloring pages you can enjoy anywhere. Coloring can help you relax, focus, and reset.
  • Well-Being Plan
    Set aside time to reflect and recharge by exploring your personal well-being plan. This resource can help you think about what supports your well-being and what helps you feel balanced.
  • DIY Sensory Bottle
    Create a calming sensory bottle using simple materials like water and glitter. This visual tool can help you relax and ground yourself when you need a break.

  • Cup of Calm
    Practice sensory mindfulness with a warm or comforting drink. Slow down, engage your senses, and allow the experience to help you feel grounded.
