Sparta Camp (First-Time, First-Year Orientation)
Sparta Camp is a two-day, required overnight session for our First Year students entering in the Fall semester to become familiar with campus and connect with fellow incoming Spartans. Overnight accommodations are provided within our on-campus residence halls for First Year students during their Sparta Camp session. We recommend student participants bring a sleeping bag, pillow, blanket, towel, toiletries, a change of clothes, and anything else that will help them feel comfortable for the overnight stay. Overnight accommodations are not provided for Parents, Family Members, or Guests of students.
Sparta Camp Orientation is a mandatory session and attendance will be recorded throughout. If you do not attend, or if you leave during any portion of the event, you will be blocked from registering for classes and will NOT be able to attend San Jose State in your admitted semester.
All admitted students must attend one Orientation session, and participate for the entire duration of the program.
New Student and Family Programs will send you an orientation confirmation letter to
your one week prior to your scheduled orientation date. You can access your via your student portal.
Review your confirmation letter sent to your My91ÁÔÆæ Messages (access through your one.91ÁÔÆæ.edu portal) one (1) week prior to your Summer Orientation session.
You can view which orientation date you registered for in your portal. In hopes to maintain an equitable registration process for all incoming 91ÁÔÆæ
students, we do not accommodate orientation session changes after the intent to enrollment
deadline. We do make exceptions for extenuating emergencies that can be verified with
proper documentation. If you have an emergency and can't attend Orientation, please
contact us at frosh-orientation@sjsu.edu.
Before Attending Summer Orientation
- Complete Spartan Link Online Orientation Module.
- Review your confirmation letter sent to your My91ÁÔÆæ Messages (access through your one.91ÁÔÆæ.edu portal) one (1) week prior to your Summer Orientation session.

Students attending Summer Orientation who need disability-related accommodations should
contact the Accessible Education Center (AEC) at aec-info@sjsu.edu as soon as possible
or at least two weeks prior to attending your orientation session.

Please note that all sessions may not be available to you on your Next Steps portal. The Orientation sessions available to each student will be based upon when their major will be offering academic advising. Additionally, sessions fill up on a first come, first serve basis so this may also affect general orientation session availability.
