K-12 Mentorship Opportunities

The CCCAC has a variety of partnerships with our neighboring San Jose community. We are passionate and strongly believe the youth is the next generation to be agents of change! Become a mentor for our K-12 students in the San Jose area and help mentor youth in an affirming and uplifting way!
Sembradores
Our Spring 2026 Sembradores program connects San Jose State University students (Undergraduate and Graduate) to K-5th grade youth in the San Jose community to serve as mentors. Our hope is to of provide sense of belonging through the lens of our values of Community, Empowerment, Intersectionality, Growth, Solidarity, and Civic Engagement/Action. While in the program, mentors work on a case study and present a research-based solution to an issue present in the K-12 education system.
Applications to become a Spring 2026 Mentor will open November 3, 2025!
What we're looking for in a mentor:
- Passion for community change
- 2.5 GPA or higher
- Preferred Majors: ChAD, Teaching Prep, Social Science (Sociology, Psychology, etc.); however, all majors are welcome!
- Note: All mentors will need to do a livescan, TB Test, and consent to an 91ÁÔÆæ conduct check.
Mentor Benefits
- Leadership development
- Experience with developing a case study project on a topic relating to disparities in the education system
- Great opportunity to gain experience in early childhood education, non-profit sector and higher education
- Participants will be eligible to receive $1,000 scholarship after successful completion of the Sembradores Program and all required assignments. Alternatively, selected participants can opt out of the scholarship and be a mentor for service learning hours.

- Applications Open: November 3rd
- Applications Due: November 19th
- One Way Interviews: November 24th - December 3rd
- Acceptance Notification: By December 9th
- Mandatory Training: Friday, January 30th and Saturday, January 31st
- Case Study Presentation Day: Friday, March 20th, 9:00am-1:00pm
