Personal Care Attendants (PCA)
San Jose State University (91ÁÔÆæ) understands that Personal Care Attendants (PCAs) may be necessary to address the personal needs of a student with a disability in order for that student to fully participate in the classrooms, programs, housing, and student life. PCA’s are strictly for student’s personal needs and serve no role in the academic support.
91ÁÔÆæ does not provide PCA services and is not responsible for the coordination of
(hiring, training, and supervising), financial responsibility, or legal liability
resulting from a student’s use of a PCA.
Please read the Process & Responsibility Guide [pdf] about PCA's.
Priority Registration
Priority registration received at a previous institution(s) does not determine eligibility at 91ÁÔÆæ; priority registration is determined on a case by case basis.Episodic & Unpredictable Disabilities
For students with disabilities that are episodic/cyclical and unpredictable and currently
not stable, the AEC will provide faculty with a notice for the potential need for
an adjustment to a course attendance policy or an extension to an assignment. Should
students experience an episode during the academic year, they will notify AEC by submitting
                     a request form.

These accommodations support curriculum requirements; meaning, fundamental course
requirements and learning outcomes will not be altered. Therefore, these accommodations
could affect and be implemented differently for each course. The guides below provide
detailed descriptions for these two types of support:
